Jenny Jacket
The Jenny Jacket is one of those pieces that looks intricate and detailed, but once you get into it, it becomes a really satisfying, rhythmic knit.
It’s worked from the bottom up in a beautiful smock texture pattern that creates stretch, structure, and depth. The body and sleeves are worked separately, then joined for the yoke, where short rows shape the neckline so it sits comfortably.
The body is worked flat, the sleeves in the round, and everything is finished with neat button bands and a clean neckline.
This is a project for when you want something a little more involved… but incredibly rewarding to wear.
Yarn notes
This design uses a held-together yarn combination to create that soft, textured fabric:
- 2 strands of fine merino (held together)
- 1 strand of silk mohair or halo yarn
This gives you a fabric that’s soft, slightly fluffy, and holds the smock pattern beautifully.
If you’d prefer to knit it in a single yarn:
- look for a yarn that gives you 30 stitches over 10 cm
- choose something with enough structure to show the texture clearly
Just note:
- held yarns = softer, slightly haloed finish
- single yarn = more defined texture and structure
Sizing
The Jenny Jacket is designed with 12–15 cm of positive ease, giving a relaxed but still shaped fit.
Sizes:
XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL)
To choose your size:
- measure your bust at the widest point
- add 12–15 cm depending on how you want it to fit
- choose the size closest to that number
If you’re between sizes, go smaller — the smock pattern will relax slightly with wear.

A quick tip before you start
Swatching really matters here.
You’re working with multiple strands and a textured pattern, so getting both stitch and row gauge right will make a big difference to how the jacket fits and how the pattern sits.
