Petra Polo
This is one of those pieces that feels a little bit special to knit… and even better to wear.
The Petra Polo is worked from the top down, starting at the back yoke before the shoulders are picked up and shaped. From there, everything is joined onto the needle and worked back and forth to create the yoke, with sleeve shaping followed by raglan increases.
The front plackets are worked in double knitting (so they sit beautifully and hold their shape), before the body is joined and worked in the round. Sleeves are picked up and worked down, and you can choose between short or long sleeves depending on how you want to wear it.
It’s finished with a neat ribbed collar and three buttons at the front.
This one is more detailed than your average knit, but in a really satisfying way.
Yarn notes
This pattern is designed for a fine, soft yarn with good drape, giving you that polished “blouse-style” finish.
Look for:
- A light fingering / 4 ply yarn
- Something that gives you 24 sts per 10 cm on 3 mm needles
Fibre-wise:
- Cashmere or merino blends will give you that soft, refined feel
- A pure wool will give a little more structure and hold
If you’re thinking about sleeve length:
- Short sleeves will reduce your yarn slightly (see below)
Metreage (so you can plan your yarn properly)
Approximate metreage required:
- XXS: 1100–1210 m
- XS: 1210 m
- S: 1210 m
- M: 1320 m
- L: 1320 m
- XL: 1430 m
- 2XL: 1430 m
- 3XL: 1540 m
- 4XL: 1540 m
- 5XL: 1650 m
If knitting short sleeves, you can reduce this by approx. 100–200 m
Sizing
Designed with very little positive ease (approx. 2 cm), so it sits close to the body more like a blouse than a sweater.
Sizes: XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL)
Finished bust: 82 (87) 92 (97) 102 (112) 122 (132) 142 (152) cm
Tip:
If you prefer a looser fit or have broader shoulders, consider going up a size.
Needles & Gauge
Gauge:
24 sts x 38 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 3 mm needles

Good to know
- Top-down (easy to try on as you go)
- Double-knit plackets for a really tidy finish
- Short or long sleeve option
- A more detailed knit, but worth it
Difficulty: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5 out of 5)
If you’re after something that sits somewhere between a knit and a tailored top… this is a really beautiful one to make.
